Similar to fillings, inlays and onlays replace lost tooth structure and restore tooth form and function.  However, unlike fillings, they are custom made by a dental laboratory, making them useful in large cavities as they have a good fit and can be made to a natural contour and shape.

Inlays are applied between the cusps of teeth whilst onlays, being larger, extend over the cusps and cover more of the tooth’s surface and provide adequate protection from further tooth fracture.

These restorations are usually made from porcelain, composite resin, or gold. Porcelain and composite resin can be created to match your own tooth colour for a more natural result.
